Brash and Powerful, with a temper as fiery as his element, Leon is the muscle of the group. His favorite style of combat is a combination of good old fashioned wrestling, and Russian Martial Arts. He loves football and a good looking chica. Occasionally, his reckless side has caused troubles for the group, and he and Asami have argued more than once. However, he has a heart of gold and a soul as pure as the Buddhist Flame.

The oldest son of a Russian businessman and a Japanese woman, Leon loved his family and football equally. One day, he got into a fight during a football game which kept him from coming home on time. As a result, he escaped the massacre of his family by a Black Angel and his followers. As it was, Leon's life was barely saved by an Angel of Light. Thus his friendship with the other characters, and his life a Mojo Dojo, began.

The Black Angel turned out to be a prominent businessman named Kuro, owner of the Yamakami corporation. The Light Angel turned out to be none other than his estranged younger sister, Asami. With K and Asami, and later Jason, Leon struggled against Kuro to avenge his family and attain the Eye of the Celestials, a powerful artifact. Along with Kuro, Leon had to deal with K's mysterious New Moon transformations. In the end, the Demon Kuraikamikage (KKK) attained the eye, and summoned a gate to hell. Leon and the others sealed the gate, and Kuro repented, becoming a valuable ally.

After that, Leon accompanied Asami on her trip to study in America. No speaking English, Leon's lessons with Asami were a source of much entertainment. He later bought a gym, and acquired a rivalry and friendship with the robust Adam Bejorn. When the group became entangled with the schemes of the mad Doctor Nero, Adam was there backing Leon up all the time. When the group finally left America, Leon left his gym to Adam.

Upon returning to Japan, the group found the Eye had returned to haunt them. This time against an unknown enemy, Leon fought side by side his friends. During one trip to the mountains, an old man told Leon that he would acquire something he wanted, though he may no longer want it. The vision came true, and Kuro was killed, telling Leon that "he guessed he got his vengeance after all". Shortly thereafter, Leon acquired his fourth form - that of the Flame Wyrm.
