Asami is the female lead, and is like K in many ways. She is the "little sister" of the group in many ways. She's the brains of the group, and she's got a lot of spunk. She is an expert with a sword, a master of fencing in both Eastern and Western styles and blades. Her relationship with K plays a key role.

The youngest of the four Yamakami siblings, Asami never really fit in. She was born Akara Yamakami, but her mother and older siblings called her "Asako" ("Little morning") Because of her cheerful disposition. Kuro was always too interested in the family business, and though Shiiro liked Asami he was always patronizing. Shizue just ignored Asami, calling her inferior. She, like her siblings, mastered her Eldarin form - that of a Light Angel - at a young age. When her mother committed suicide, and her father was murdered, the family fell apart. There was a fight which ended in Kuro and Shiiro dueling one another, and destroying the old Yamakami building. Asami tried to stop them from fighting, and was killed.

As she lay there, dying, she was visited by an Eldarin of Light, who offered her a deal; allow the Spirit-Eldarin the use of her body when she asked (which was rarely), and she would save Asami's life. She took on the power of the Eldarin-Goddess, gaining a new life. For her own happiness and protection, the goddess kept Asami from remembering her past life, as well as her bargain.

Asami met Leon, K, and Jason quite on accident, but quickly became good friends. The "little sister" of the group she has often been left behind for her own protection - but that hasn't stopped her at all. A warrior in her own right, it was Asami who often saved the day, especially before the others mastered their Eldarin forms. She helped the boys collect the Five Eyes, as well as fight KKK -while all the time she was developing deep feelings for K. She could have killed KKK, but did not, because she cared too much for his host.

While in America, Asami became the target of the mysterious Dr. Neero. When he kidnaped her for his own sinister plan - to become an Eldarin - she found herself actually against an enemy she could not face. Though she learned many new abilities, she began to doubt herself. It was this doubt which allowed Dr. Neero to dominate her and use her to fight her friends. However, it was Asami's will which broke his earthly connection and allowed his defeat.

While in Neero's clutches Asami came unto her true power - the ability to "cross over", and to channel energies of the spirit planes, as well as the ability to speak and control spirits. However, this power - the root of her healing abilities - scared her. She knew her dark side all too well - a side inherent to all the Yamakami - and she had seem what KKK could make K do. What if she became like him? It was better not to use such powers than give them to evil. However, when her very dark side is brought to life, Asami finds the only way to stop her darkness is to embrace it. With K's life on the line, she calls forth her final form, that of the Spectral-winged Star Angel.
