Prince Aden was the first born son of King Wilhelm and Queen Lanaris. His mother died soon after his birth, however, and King Wilhelm wed his mother’s handmaiden, Taimine. This union led him to have a baby sister, Airi. While he was growing up, Aden was always taught everything the heir of a kingdom could possibly want to know. Although these teachings often made him somewhat arrogant, his step-mother did all she could to take off his hard edge. For the most part, she was successful in this and as he grew, Aden appeared that he would be a just ruler. He grew to be strong and handsome, good with a sword. He also became very protective of his younger sister, though sometimes this irritated her. He loved her and his step-mother, and admired his father; choosing to ignore some of the policies that were increasingly unjust on his people.
One night everything changed. He happened to stumble upon a meeting of his father’s most trusted lieutenants, plotting his father’s death. While somewhat flattered that they thought he should become king, the thought of their betrayal burned him up inside. He sought to warn his father, but before he could reach him, the castle fell under sudden attack. During the attack, he was injured, but rescued by a strange man who called himself only "Hassai".
After healing his wounds, Hassai explained to Aden why Fanardis had to fall, and why Aeccorida’s victory was so important. He also offered to give Aden the power to take his revenge - if that was what he saw fit. Aden accepted, and Hassai brought him to Earth - showing him fighting techniques and weapons unlike anything Aden had seen before. When he returned Aden to Aeccorida, he returned him armed with knowledge of war and tactics, as well as the use of the ancient mecha that lay buried beneath Aeccordian soil.
Aden changed his name to hide his identity and served as a general in the Aeccordian army. Five years quickly passed. Then, while on scout duty one day Aden discovered a girl working strange magic in the ruins of an ancient temple. When he went to investigate, he realized the girl was none other than his sister Airi. Airi was overjoyed to see Aden, and a part of him was happy to see that she had survived the attack on Aeccordia. Still, he couldn’t tell her about who he had become. He protected her long enough to send her back to the other Fanardians - and long enough to meet three strange women (making a lasting impression on the one named Misao). Then he returned to Aeccordia to begin work on the excavation of a mech that had finally been discovered.
At this excavation site, a team of Fanardians led by Loki were discovered. Loki was captured for interrogation, and soon another team came to rescue him. Aden soon realized he had to choose between his old friends and the life he had built in Aeccorida. Remembering the plot of his friends and the words of Hassai, he chose Aeccorida.
In the fight, he was mortally wounded by Misao, but strangely enough he didn’t die. Instead, a part of him that had been sleeping for a long time - a part unknowingly strengthened by Hassai - woke up. He changed from human to Erydine: a black-winged Erydine. Madness overtook him with this other form, born from hate, anger and confusion. He was captured due to intervention by King Cyrrus.
While under King Cyrrus’ care, his healers tried to heal the damage done to his mind, and tried to stop the still-progressing change in his body. Yet it appeared to be beyond their skill. While as an Erydine, only two people could reach Aden: Hassai and his sister, Airi. In a desperate attempt to save him, Airi came to try her luck with her older brother. She probably would have saved him, if it were not for the fact, Hassai, too was at work within his mind.
Using the bond forged on Earth, Hassai commanded Aden to bring Airi to him. Aden could not fight Hassai’s compulsion; he took Airi, and all the while she continued to try and talk him out of what he was doing.
Airi’s friends would not stand for this; they fought Aden with all their might. Aden fought back with the strength of an Erydine. Meanwhile, the Aeccordians had launched their own attack on the Mountain Kingdom. Aden was only stopped when Sora - using magic far beyond her skill - opened a rift to hell and incinerated him. When the smoke cleared (literally) the Mountain Palace was in ruins, and Aden gone, but Airi was safe and the Aeccordians had meanwhile been turned back by an unexpected (for the Aeccordians, at least) flight of dragons.
There is a grave for Aden at the base of the new Fanardis Castle. While others who died due to Hassai’s treachery were resurrected, he remained dead. While through death others had had hopes and dreams cut short, he had finally found his peace.
