Never one to be called "normal" Dr. Cid is a mad scientist in the archetypal sense. He is an inventor, theorized, researcher and overall genius. Since he was a boy, he has been obsessed with of the possibility of an alternate time line or an alternate world, affecting the fate of Earth. His obsession was pushed into action when he met a young woman named Ellis, who showed him first hand that such a world did in fact exist. Though their meeting was brief, it was enough to get Cid to continue his research. Shortly after, he discovered what he later learned was called a Rune Stone. He theorized that using this as a focus combined with the ancient lines of power in myth called laylines, he would be able to open a gate to the other world.

Unfortunately for Dr. Cid, his research was discovered by Hassai. Hassai offered to fully fund the project, but Cid declined the offer, sensing the megacorp President was not one to be trusted. Hassai wouldn’t take no for an answer, though. He sent his men many times to Dr. Cid’s lab to capture information or the man himself, yet somehow each time he was unsuccessful. Finally Hassai realized the best way to get Cid to work for him was to simply wait and allow him to finish the project: without letting him know he was allowing him to finish. He continued to sent his gray-suited agents to keep up the ruse, but allowed Cid to do what was necessary until he completed his gate. Once it was done, he would send Seperoth to take care of situation.

After the gate, Hassai realized that there were still things he didn’t know. Therefore, it would be best to keep the Dr. alive a little longer. After all there was always his assistant to be used for information. . . . .
