Shion grew up in Tokyo as a typical, if somewhat trouble-seeking, teenager. He managed to get himself involved in the wrong crowds, eventually coming close to being expelled from high school. It was during one of his rants with his gang that Shion, quite literally, ran into Dr. Cid. His gang had targeted the mad scientist’s house as place to vandalize. They broke in, and what they found in the doctor’s lab was much more than they had bargained for. Most of them found the gadgets as toys to break, but Shion found them fascinating. In the middle of the run, Dr. Cid caught them. Most of the boys ran, but Shion, curious, stayed behind. Dr. Cid chased him away with his newest invention, but Shion for an odd reason liked the doctor.

So he came back. Every day for a week he returned, pestering Dr. Cid about his inventions. Finally the doctor gave in and began to explain his theories to the high school boy. . . .The two became close over time, and after graduation Shion agreed to be Dr. Cid’s "assistant" on his latest project - a theory that they might not be alone in the universe.

Unfortunately, this newest project brought the attention of the Hassai Corp toward Dr. Cid. Mistrustful of the corporation, Dr. Cid refused a personal invitation by the President of the Corp to discuss a research grant. As a result, he became followed and harassed by men in gray suits - lackeys of President Hassai. During this time, Shion helped the Dr. As he could in research, but more importantly used his underground connections to gain supplies, information and protection for the good doctor.

Finally the day came to test the doctor’s theory. Shion was sent to gather a strange red stone found by a colleague of Dr. Cid, which Cid believed was from another dimension. Upon receiving the stone, Shion was assaulted by men in gray, who killed Dr. Cid’s friend and went after Shion with similar intentions. Trying to get away, Shion entered an Anime convention being held by a local group of college students. However, instead of merely escaping, he found himself aided by two of the students, one of which he Immediately had an attraction to - which was only furthered by a diversional kiss in the bathroom - and one of which carried live firearms.

Escaping with the young woman who had come to his aid, Shion set off for the park where he knew Dr. Cid was waiting for the last of his data to prove his theory of Gates that would lead to other dimensions, proving Earth was not alone in the universe. . .or multi verse as it would seem. However, fate had other plans. Before Shion could get to Dr. Cid, a gate opened of his own accord, transporting a dragon into Tokyo. He and the others he had met at the convention attacked the dragon, sending it back to its own dimension. Unfortunately, the girls from the convention were sent with the dragon.

Shion went to Dr. Cid, who spent the next month researching ways to open a Gate, which had now been proven beyond doubt to be possible. While Shion was in the park one day, events mirroring the one that had happened the day he received the red stone occurred, and surely enough, the girls from Tokyo reappeared! This time, however, they had brought friends with them. They met with Shion and Dr. Cid, but unfortunately Hassai Corp launched another attack on them before anything could be done. Instead, Shion led them to two friends who worked the underground and had been helping Dr. Cid with Project Dimension Door.

With their help, the help of their friend Naiyami, and the help of the strange youth Sora, they managed to set up the Gate Dr. Cid had been working for years to build. Yet Hassai was determined that the Gate would not be opened. He sent his strongest warrior, Seperoth, to stop them. In the course of the battle, Cara and Shuuske were seriously injured and Shion was knocked out of the circle that defined the Gate. When it opened, the girls and their companions - including Naiyami - had been transported back to the other world. The arrival of the police on the scene prompted Shion and Seperoth both to flee.

After the attack on the Gate, Dr. Cid became much more careful. Shion turned to Cara and Shuuske after their recovery, only to find that Hassai had gotten to them first. They captured Shion and brought him to Hassai, who was determined to take all he needed to know from the mind of Dr. Cid’s assistant. However, Shion was saved unexpectedly by the arrival of a powerful magic-welding girl from the world Shion’s companions had been transported to! The girl managed to bring Shion with her when she returned to her own world.

Shion learned that the other world was having problems which made his own seem trivial. However, he was not surprised to see that Hassai had left his mark on this world. The question then, lay in what Dr. Cid knew that Hassai did not. Shion pondered this question with King Cyrrus as war erupted around them. A decision was finally made to go back to Earth and confront Hassai there, putting a stop to his scheme.

Shion worked with the Fanardians first to secure the Devil’s Honor, and then in facing Hassai not only as the megalomaniacal President of Hassai Corp, but as a god! Compared to the others, Shion’s strength was not much, but it was still enough to tip the scales in the final battle. He was able to buy enough time for things to be done that would save Earth and Arcan both. . . .

After Hassai’s defeat, Shion stayed behind on Earth with Naiyami. Although he always would think fondly about the strange girl he met at the convention that day, he understood that he belonged on Earth as one of the few who understood its own past and the connection to other worlds.
